Visiting Children’s Homes – Fejér County Child Protection Center
2022. September 08.
In mid-August, we had the privilege of visiting the children at the Fejér County Child Protection Center. The institution’s leadership had thoughtfully decided to allocate our donation toward enriching experiences for the children, rather than for equipment. Their rationale, based on years of practice, is that traditional pedagogical methods often fall short in addressing the needs of the young individuals in their care. They believe that experiential learning offers far more significant benefits, equipping the children with valuable life skills and greater chances for personal growth and success.
With this belief in mind, they partnered with the Élményakadémia Public Benefit Association, an organization they had collaborated with previously. We asked them to plan a five-day adventure camp for 20 children together that would be fully funded by our foundation. The camp was held in the serene, natural surroundings of Bakonyszentlászló, and we had the opportunity to meet the children, who came from four different units of the institution. The primary aim of the camp was to help these young participants explore their personal strengths and reinforce their understanding that they are valued members of their communities and society. The camp’s activities were thoughtfully structured by the social workers using a range of experiential learning tools, including outdoor games, problem-solving challenges, group discussions, music, dance, theater improvisation, and high-ropes exercises. During our visit, we joined one of the group activities and were delighted to witness the children’s enthusiastic and open participation. We are proud to have supported this camp, and we hope that the experiences gained will have a lasting positive impact on the children’s lives, helping them to thrive long into the future.
