DONATION TO A UKRAINIAN REFUGEE CAMP - DEBRECEN-ERDŐSPUSZTA - MAY 2022

One of the most important aspects of the Russo-Ukrainian war is the humanitarian crisis caused by the fights – not only in terms of the civilian casualties of the war, but also in terms of the masses fleeing the country.

The life of children and families is getting harder day by day as no one is safe. Since 24 February 2022, millions of children have been forced to flee their homes and millions of children also live in Ukraine as internal refugees. As the clashes worsen, so does the number of refugees and those in need of emergency assistance.

In response to the refugee crisis created by the Russo-Ukrainian war, the Dorkász Service Foundation launched a relief operation in several areas and opened Dorkász Reception Center to families forced to flee their homes due to the war, where hundreds of refugees can be accommodated in its Erdőspuszta camp. Dorkász not only provides them with accommodation and food, but also helps them in their spiritual care and so that the refugees who come here can find work as soon as possible. Hungarian and Ukrainian refugees from Transcarpathia also come here, but some have come from the interior of Ukraine, near Kyiv. Mainly families and children come to the camp and Dorkász provides them with education and sports facilities.

To this end, in addition to the Teqball table, which is deservedly popular among children, our Foundation handed over a collection of sports equipment worth about one million forints, which included a ping-pong table, almost all the sports equipment needed for ball games, and even a trampoline. During the handover of the donations, we got to know a lot of children who happily welcomed everything and spent a meaningful morning trying out the games.

VISIT TO A CHILDREN'S HOME - CHILDREN'S HOME AND AFTERCARE HOME OF PÉCS - MAY 2022

We visited the Pécs Children’s Home of Baranya County Child Protection Center, where we met extremely kind children, young adults and educators in the institution situated in the historical downtown of Pécs. The children warmly welcomed us and guided us through their home, groups and rooms, thus we were given insight to their everydays.

The building of the Children’s Home is of medieval origin. The building has served as a Turkish mosque, a Catholic chapel, a cooperage, and an educational institution for girls. The Children’s Home has been operating here since 1961, but the building has been rebuilt several times since. The advantage of the zigzagging of the building is that no two residential units are the same, so the monotony of uniformity is not perceptible. The individual residential units are relatively well separated, but at the same time the nature of the communal spaces is very familiar and cozy.

Within the framework of child protection specialist care, the Children’s Home provides care for children placed in temporary care or in foster care, as well as after-care care for young adults. The purpose of aftercare is to help the child or young adult to reintegrate into the family environment and to start an independent life. Beyond these, the most important goal of those who work here is to help children in their care to experience happiness and the joys of everyday life during their upbringing. We wanted to contribute to this with our donations, so we chose to give several fun and leisure gifts for children and lots of practical and useful gifts for the educators. Our donations included laptops, tablets, webcams, speakers, a printer and other office equipment, which will be of great help to educators and children, especially in education, but we also didn’t forget about the practical gifts, so we brought a high chair, stroller and vacuum cleaner alike. The home has a fairly large common yard where we brought a training table, treadmill, ping pong table, trampoline and garden sandpit.

VISIT TO A CHILDREN'S HOME - TOLNA COUNTY CHILD PROTECTION CENTER - MAY 20022

Our visit to Szekszárd was in a great mood thanks to the head of the institution, who welcomed us very warmly and then we talked at length about our experience in child protection, in which, of course, he dominated due to his decades in child protection.

The Tolna County Child Protection Center consists of four separate and functional professional units, which are located in 9 settlements of the county and provide full care for about 140 children. According to them, the main and fundamental idea of the Child Protection Center is that “the child should be in the center”. They try to create the most tolerant, safe and familiar environment possible for every child who enters them. According to their creed, serving in the Child Protection Center is not a job but a profession. The child protection professionals who work here are all committed to providing the best possible care for all the children who enter them, in need of their help, they support them with love to go through normal physical, mental and spiritual development while they are being brought up with them.

Like many other institutions, they asked for support in developing their IT equipment, so the donation mainly included complete desktops, laptops, printers, network switches and operating systems, which will be of great benefit to children and educators alike.

We hope to be able to comply with their kind invitation again and visit them again at one of their sites.

VISIT TO A CHILDREN'S HOME - KOSSUTH LAJOS CHILDREN'S HOME CENTER AND PRIMARY SCHOOL - MAY 2022

After the integration in 2006, the Children’s Home Center provides home care for children placed in temporary care or foster care without the involvement of foster parents, and aftercare support for young adults; the institution is maintained by the Directorate General of Social Affairs and Child Protection and its Pest County Branch. As a result of the integration, the institution was expanded with several sites, the profile of which also provides care for students with special/dual needs.

Recently, the institution has embarked on a fundamental personal, pedagogical-methodological and infrastructural renewal. Classrooms, a gym, most of the residential units and the sports field were renovated in the building of the Centre’s headquarters, the Children’s Home and Internal School at 16 Menyecske Street in Kelenföld. On the other hand, they need further urgent improvements, especially in the development of IT tools, particularly due to digital education, in which they are clearly lagging behind. They face serious challenges in terms of both equipment and network deployment.

The colleagues of the Foundation are well acquainted with the environment in which the educators work and stand on a daily basis, so we can base their supportive help on reality, this time we have delighted the children and their educators with several brand new desktops and laptops. We also kept their fun and comfort in mind, so a foosball table, beanbags, swing beds, mats, pillows and other decorative items were also handed over.

VISIT TO A CHILDREN'S HOME - KAFFKA MARGIT AFTERCARE AND CHILDREN'S HOME CENTER - MAY 2022

This time we visited the Kaffka Margit Aftercare and Children’s Home Center on Acsády Ignác Street in Budapest. The building was constructed in 1918 by the National Child Protection League from the funds donated by baron Csetei Herczog Mór Lipót, and it initially served as the Erzsébet Home of War Orphan Girls. From then on, it functioned continuously as a youth home and then as children’s home, according to the memorial plaque exhibited in memory of Herczog Mór Lipót.

The institution requested our support in contributing to the development of IT equipment, which they say are lagging far behind. To expand their fleet, we handed over complete desktops and laptops during our visit.

The laptops will be distributed to those in aftercare through internal bidding. Especially among those who are studying in higher education and those who are participating in the ART-RAVALÓ project, which is a social-art project for young adults with disadvantaged background and former recipients of child protection services. And desktops contribute to the infrastructural development of the institutional study room, making it easier for children and young adults to participate in education and catch up.

VISIT TO A CHOLDREN'S HOME - BOKRÉTA CHILDREN'S HOME CENTER - MAY 2022

On the occasion of Children’s Day, we were invited to the Children’s Day celebration at the Bokréta Housing Home, Children’s Home Center and Primary School in Bicske.

The home in a fabulous setting was loud from the hustle and bustle of children. Air castle, chimney cake, sports games and many more programs entertained the kids on this beautiful summer day. To make the programs more colorful, our Foundation also organized a Teqball demonstration, which fortunately attracted children and they took an active part in trying out Teq sports. Of course, the sport was no stranger to them, as they have their own Teqball table and previously also took part in the 1st Teqball Cup between Children’s Homes, which was held in Budapest a few weeks ago.

In addition to expanding the sports opportunities of children living at the home, Gattyán Foundation places great emphasis on providing their education, including the necessary facilities, which are constantly lacking in institutions, thus facilitating the participation and increasing the efficiency of children and educators. To this end, we donated laptops, flash drives and smartphones to the institution.

VISIT TO A CILDREN'S HOME – MÁTÉSZALKA – MAY 2022

This time we visited the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County Child Protection Center in Mátészalka, where we donated 10 new Samsung smart TVs to the children living there, in addition, some smaller computer accessories were also delivered to make the everyday life of the educators easier. We have had a very good relationship with the head of the institution for a long time, so it was a pleasure for us to visit them again in person. In Mátészalka, several of their professional units have been beautifully renewed in recent years, which the children also try to take care of. The TVs will certainly be in a good place with them too and we hope we can contribute to the lives of the groups by having fun, watching movies together.

VISIT TO A CILDREN'S HOME – CHILDREN'S HOME OF MISKOLC – MAY 2022

This time we visited the eastern part of Hungary to deliver our donations in person to the Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Child Protection Center in Miskolc; we donated 20 mini hi-fi sets to this institution. The head of the institution said their experience is that children are instinctively involved in all music-related activities that they seem to enjoy. Therefore they have chosen these products, from which all their professional units benefit equally, to channel the children’s energies with as many music programs as possible, which also develops the community.

VISIT TO A CHILDREN'S HOME – BÓLYAI CHILDREN'S HOME – MAY 2022

These days we had another opportunity to visit some orphanages. This time we visited the Bolyai Children’s Home Center in Budapest, where we were happy to take the donations selected by the recipient institution. The children’s home operating at Breznó Lane is situated in one of the most beautiful environment of Budapest, at the foot of Sas Hill. The home was filled with a very friendly and family atmosphere mainly because we had the opportunity to meet some of the students who welcomed us kindly and smiling. The new phones donated will primarily help educators and carers working from home in their day-to-day work, while tablets will expand children’s learning and entertainment opportunities.

VISITING THE CHILDREN’S HOME – DEVELOPMENT HOUSE AT MÉNFŐCSANAK – APRIL 2022

This time we visited the development house at Ménfőcsanak that belongs to the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Child Protection Center, where, thanks to our Foundation, we have created a salt room for children where the little ones can heal and strengthen their immune system while playing.

The salt cleanses the lungs and bronchi and provides spectacular development in children with allergies or asthma. With regular visits, hay fever, tracheobronchitis, sinusitis, otitis, vocal cord inflammation and bronchitis can also be treated well. According to research, the salt room also helps hyperactive children: concentration and sleep disorders can be alleviated or even eliminated, and it also has an excellent stress-relieving and relaxing effect.

There are several beneficial physiological effects during and after spending time in the salt room. These effects are mainly due to the Himalayan salt from which the wall of the salt room was built, and the salt sand pit, salt lamps and a special ionizer in the room continuously release salt into the air. As a result, the air in the salt room is free of dust and stimuli, and is highly antiallergic and antibacterial.

Our goal was to create a salt room where children can have fun while healing and strengthening their immune systems.

VISIT TO THE CHILDREN’S HOME OF MÓNOSBÉL – APRIL 2022

During our visit to Mónosbél we surprised the children with 15 brand new smart television sets, which will be distributed among the children’s homes and residential child care homes supervised by the Child Protection Center of Heves County.

In the course of a pleasant conversation, we were briefly informed of the organizational structure of the institution, the professional programs and the educational activities. We met children and educators alike, so we could get a brief insight into the lives and leisure activities of the children and young people educated in the institution, thanks to which we were able to get an objective picture of their work, showing their successes and difficulties.
To our great surprise, the talented children living in the home also prepared a performance for us, which was very touching and moving.

SUPPORTING LARGE FAMILIES – DECEMBER 2021

RELIEF AID TO UKRAINE – MARCH 2022

The country has come together shoulder to shoulder on the issue of Ukrainian refugees. Of course, Gattyán Foundation also contributed several million forints to help them.

This time, our organization supports the children of Transcarpathia who stay on the other side of the border and need acute help due to the war. After contacting the representatives of the region, we were informed about the needs of the children living there. With this donation, we support three kindergartens in Transcarpathia, in the large villages of Drahiv, Zabrid and Zolotariv, as well as an orphanage in Svalyava, a hospital in the Tyachiv district and finally a ward specializing in children in the Bustyno medical center.

The aid consignments contained the largest proportion of durable food, medicines, hygiene and childcare items, but we also took into account the individual needs of the children and included ample toys, colorful blankets and bedding delivered directly to the institutions by our authorized logistics partner.

In addition, the Foundation did not ignore the support of large aid organizations. Together with the International Teqball Federation (FITEQ), we offered another emergency aid worth several million forints, which the Hungarian Red Cross distributed to those in need.

PROFESSIONAL RESEARCH

The Foundation’s approach is that the basis for effective assistance is professional foundation. To facilitate this, within the framework of a national survey conducted in the years of 2020 and 2021, the Foundation mapped the educational participation of children living in children’s homes, their current education, their further study plans and their vision related to learning and work.
