Training for Children’s Home Workers – SNI & ADHD – September 20, 2023

After taking a summer break to accommodate the needs of children’s homes, we resumed our training series in September with a focus on Special Educational Needs (SNI) and ADHD—topics that are especially relevant for children in state-supported care. We were delighted to see strong interest from colleagues across various institutions, eager to explore these important subjects.

The session began with a presentation by Zsuzsanna Szollár, a child protection and social work expert, who provided a comprehensive overview of special educational needs, with a particular focus on specialized care. Following her, Dr. Csilla Kálózi-Szabó, a faculty member at ELTE’s Bárczi Gusztáv Faculty of Special Education and an active researcher in the field, offered valuable insights into the neurobiological aspects of SNI and ADHD. She explained the complexities of these conditions in an accessible way, highlighting the

impact of stress and trauma on children. After a break, the afternoon session turned its attention to ADHD. Mariann Hornyák, leader of the Kék Erdő Foundation and a passionate advocate for the cause, delivered an in-depth presentation on the causes, symptoms, and practical strategies for managing ADHD in everyday settings.

Participant feedback made it clear that addressing SNI in specialized care is both valuable and necessary. We hope the training provided new, practical knowledge to the children’s home workers in attendance, helping to support them in their vital work.
