Teqball success of young people growing up in children’s homes – April 2024

The first round of this year’s MOL National Teqball Championship took place on April 20–21, 2024, at the Ludovika Arena in Budapest. Among the talented participants were five young individuals introduced to Teqball through the Gattyán Foundation, which continues to support their development.

One of these young athletes, Tamás Jurkiewicz, has been featured in previous articles for his dedication and skill, which have earned him impressive results in the sport. Tamás competed in several National Championships and once again showcased his talent in this latest round. In the individual amateur category, he secured 3rd place in a highly competitive field. He also took part in the professional doubles category for the first time — a remarkable achievement in itself.

Gábor Fodor and Dominik Bangó, two other promising players, participated in every round of last year’s championship, and we are hopeful they will continue this strong performance in 2024. In the first round, they secured an impressive 2nd place in their challenging

doubles group. In the individual competition, Gábor faced the eventual champion in his group, losing that match but easily defeating his other opponent to finish second. Dominik, who faced Tamás Jurkiewicz in his group, couldn’t overcome him but secured a thrilling victory in his other match, winning in a dramatic final set.

Two newcomers, Roland Palkó and Milán Szabó, also made their debut at the championship, competing in the youth category. Both performed exceptionally well, finishing 5th in their first major tournament. Milán deserves a special mention—while the official age range for the competition is 14–18, he was allowed to compete at just 13 years old by special request. With his enthusiasm and determination, we are confident that many more successes are on the horizon for him.

On behalf of the foundation, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to all these young athletes. Their achievements are the result of years of hard work and dedication, and they serve as an inspiring example to their peers growing up in children’s homes.
