Supporting the Dr. Ámbédkar School – April 2023

In our work, we frequently encounter organizations that, while not operating as child protection institutions, are still closely connected to the field in various ways.

The Dr. Ámbédkar School in Miskolc is a standout example of this. The school takes a unique and inspiring approach to educating disadvantaged students, many of whom come from nearby Roma settlements, where the graduation rate is currently below 1%. As a second-chance school, their mission is clear from the outset: the goal is not just to complete basic education but to graduate from high school and potentially pursue a profession as well. Their curriculum is designed to empower students by changing their social circumstances and emphasizing a sense of identity that helps them overcome their disadvantaged backgrounds.

The school achieves this through high-quality education, which would otherwise be out of reach for students from segregated areas. Their approach is highly personalized, with a strong emphasis on creating a supportive and trusting environment. It quickly becomes clear to the students that everything the school offers is designed for their benefit. Using reform pedagogy as the foundation, the curriculum places special importance on teaching English, modern sciences, and information technology.

Our foundation is proud to support one of the school’s key IT projects. Currently, 9th and 10th-grade students are training to become ICT network technicians. Given that many of the students start with limited digital skills, they require individual guidance and support throughout the learning process. To accelerate their progress, the school works with an external partner, and we are pleased to contribute by funding this program.

We believe that the innovative approach and dedication we’ve seen at the Ámbédkar School can make a real impact in terms of social integration—something that is greatly needed. We are hopeful that our support will provide these young people with the tools they need to achieve a brighter future and a better quality of life.
