School Visit in Geszt – February 2023
2023. February 24.
In February, we had the pleasure of returning to Geszt, a small village near the Romanian border, where we had previously donated school supplies for future first graders. We were delighted to see that the school bags and other materials were being put to good use as we observed one of the classes in session. Despite the vilage’s modest size, with barely 800 residents, its school is modern and well-maintained, built just five years ago. The care and dedication of the teachers were evident, as they work hard to create a safe and welcoming environment for the children.
After a tour of the village led by the mayor, we gained deeper insight into the living conditions of the community. It became clear that the school is more than just a place for learning, it also serves as a second home for many of the children. Unfortunately, some students face harsh realities, living in homes without water, electricity, or heating, and with limited job opportunities, many families struggle to make ends meet. The school principal shared how the staff is dedicated to countering these challenges, offering as much support as they can to help families in need.
It’s always inspiring to meet with leaders and institutions who, despite the difficulties they face, remain motivated and approach their community with love and openness. We felt reassured that our donation was going to a place where it would truly make a difference. The laptops, toys, and sweets we brought with us this time are sure to benefit the children. Moreover, we are happy to continue our tradition of providing essential supplies for next year’s future first graders.
We look forward to returning to Geszt, where we are always met with warmth and gratitude, knowing that our contributions are appreciated and have a meaningful impact.
