Gyöngyvirág Children’s Home – End of the “Home Garden” Initiative – July 2022
2022. July 15.
We are pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the “Home Garden” initiative at the Gyöngyvirág Children’s Home, which belongs to the József Attila Children’s Home network. To celebrate the occasion, we hosted a special event, marking the culmination of a program designed to enhance the children’s mental and physical well-being through engaging outdoor activities.
In partnership with the Életfa team, experts in permaculture gardening, the goal of the project was to transform the children’s home garden into a self-sustaining, productive space for the long term. Launched in October last year, the program involved 12 hands-on sessions, each focusing on different aspects of garden development. Over time, a dedicated group of children became actively involved, showing enthusiasm and commitment as they worked together to rejuvenate the garden.
For the final session, we organized a festive gathering in the newly revitalized garden, with participation from all of the home’s residents. The weather was ideal, and preparations for a traditional stew, cooked over an open fire, began early in the morning. Several children eagerly assisted with the cooking and other kitchen tasks. The day also included group games, planting additional plants, and creating a photo montage for the children as a keepsake of their hard work and happy memories.
After a delicious outdoor lunch, the children who participated in the program were rewarded for their months of effort. Thanks to a joint donation from the Foundation and Aquaworld Resort, the children and their caregivers could enjoy a full day at the water park, with all meals and activities included.
Through our initiative, we hope to have brought the children closer through teamwork and a shared sense of accomplishment. Along with the lasting memories, they also gained valuable skills and knowledge in gardening. We will continue to follow the progress of their garden and remain committed to helping them sustain their enthusiasm and appreciation for the environment.
