From children’s homes to international Teqball tournaments – October 2022

Tamás Jurkiewicz, a resident of the Bicske children’s home, has achieved remarkable success with the support of the Gattyán Foundation and Teqball. His journey is a true example of what dedication and perseverance can achieve.

In recent years, the Gattyán Foundation donated more than 70 Teqball tables to institutions caring for children in state custody, as part of its ongoing commitment to promoting sports and healthy living. One of these tables was provided to the Bicske children’s home, where Tamás was first introduced to the sport.

In April 2022, during the first National Teqball Cup for children’s homes, organizers took notice of Tamás’s enthusiasm and commitment to helping his teammates during the competition. Recognizing his potential, Tamás was offered the opportunity not only to continue playing Teqball at the children’s home but also to attend regular training sessions at a Teqball club in Budapest. Over the summer, he became an active member of the Infinity Teqball family and soon earned a permanent place in the club. By June, Tamás had officially signed with the club, where he became an athlete of the Hungarian Teqball Federation, enabling him to compete in his first national tournament in Hódmezővásárhely.

Tamás has since earned international Teqball certification, granting him the ability to compete in official Teqball tournaments around the world. This led to his participation in the International Teqball Tournament in Krakow in September 2022, where he competed against players from Poland, Romania, Ukraine, Lebanon, and Kuwait.

Tamás’s international journey continued as he competed in the largest Teqball event to date, held in Budapest, where he celebrated his first international victory that was an inspiring milestone in his promising career.

In September, Tamás tookon a new role as an official Teqball coach, leading training sessions for fellow residents at the Bicske children’s home. The Gattyán Foundation is proud to support this initiative, and we hope that Tamás’s story will inspire many more young people to engage in sports and enjoy healthier and more fulfilling lifestyles.
