Visiting Children’s Homes – Komárom-Esztergom County Child Protection Center and Children’s Homes in Oroszlány and Kömlőd – June 2022
2022. June 24.
During our visit to Komárom-Esztergom County, we stopped by two children’s homes to personally deliver donations. Our first stop was the Oroszlány Children’s Home, where we surprised the residents with gifts like bean bag chairs, smartphones, speakers, a microphone, and a projector with a screen. We also donated furniture, electronic appliances, and computer equipment, which will be used in their nearby residential homes.
The children and the head of the institution gave us a warm welcome. One of the young residents even prepared a song, which they courageously performed for us. After discussing their report cards and future education plans, we joined the director on a visit to another facility, where the children and caregivers were waiting for us with a barbecue as this home had recently received a 10-person outdoor grill from the Foundation.
Kömlőd is a small village about 15 km from Tatabánya, with a population of around 1,000. According to the caregivers, they have an excellent relationship with the local community, which is very supportive and accepting of the children in their care. The children’s home provides a nurturing environment for those with special needs who require personalized educational services. Children and young adults with intellectual disabilities, ranging from ages 3 to 24, live here, including those receiving aftercare services.
We spent a pleasant and meaningful afternoon with the children, who proudly showed us their cozy homes, bedrooms, and garden toys. It was evident that the caregivers work hard to ensure the children lead balanced, fulfilling lives and provide them with a loving, family-like environment.
