Training for Children’s Home Staff – Promoting Learning; Successful Educational Integration – September 19, 2024

After the summer break, we resumed our training series, focusing on a highly relevant topic for our September session: how to support children in state care to achieve greater success in education.

The first presentation was delivered by Dr. Szilvia Gyurkó and Dr. Dominika Rácz from the Hintalovon Foundation. They provided valuable insights into both formal frameworks and practical cases, addressing the legal aspects of children’s rights and illustrating them with real-world scenarios. Their comprehensive approach considered all the stakeholders involved in education, offering a well-rounded and informative perspective.

Next, we heard from Mónika Rózsa, a clinical and mental health psychologist specializing in child and youth care. Her presentation explored the potential consequences of trauma and strategies to develop self-regulation in children. She emphasized the vital role of healing relationships provided by children’s home staff, underlining the profound impact these connections have on the children in their care.

The day’s third speaker, Dr. Éva Szabó, an associate professor at the University of Szeged, gave a fascinating talk on the psychological resources that support learning. Drawing from her academic expertise, she also shared practical tools and methods that participants could incorporate into their daily work.

After an intensive morning, participants enjoyed a relaxing lunch break, recharging for the final session of the day. Erika Ladányi, leader of the Kompánia Tanoda in Csepel, then delivered an engaging presentation on developing the social competencies of disadvantaged children. Alongside sharing the history of her Tanoda’s work over the past decade, she introduced specific methods and activities that participants could adapt for their own settings.

We hope that the professionals who attended found this year’s final training session valuable. We are thrilled that over 300 children’s home staff members from institutions

nationwide participated in our four professional training days this year. We are confident that the knowledge they gained will support them in their important work every day!
