Teqball success of young people growing up in children’s homes – June 2024

The third and final round of this year’s MOL National Teqball Championship took place on June 15-16, 2024, at the Sports Hall in Egyetem Square, Győr.

As always, six talented young players supported by our foundation participated in the competition. Tamás Jurkiewicz competed in both the individual and doubles professional categories, facing strong opponents and delivering an impressive performance throughout the day. Immediately after the event, Tamás flew to Denmark to compete in an international tournament, leaving him little time to rest.

Gábor Fodor and Dominik Bangó, both seasoned competitors in the National Championships, also participated. Gábor finished second in his group in the individual category and advanced to the top 8 as the best runner-up. There, he faced András Taskó, one of the most experienced players in the field. Despite Gábor’s strong gameplay, Taskó’s experience prevailed, and Gábor finished in 5th place—an excellent result, especially considering his opponent ultimately won the category. Dominik, unfortunately, lost two matches in the group stage against very strong players and did not advance. In the doubles category, the duo was unable to deliver their best performance this time and did not make it out of the group stage.

Roland Palkó and Milán Szabó both reached the top 8 in the individual category. In doubles, Roland’s team won one match but lost another, preventing them from progressing out of the group stage. Milán, once again paired with Kevin Lakatos, played exceptionally well throughout the day, advancing to the finals. In the final match, they faced the Bodker youth team again and played confidently, winning in two straight sets. After earning a silver medal in Miskolc, this time they claimed gold!

Kevin Lakatos also performed well in the individual category alongside his doubles gold medal. He dominated his group effortlessly and later defeated Milán in the quarterfinals, securing his spot in the top 4 in Győr. However, Kevin struggled in the semifinals, making more mistakes than usual and failing to advance to the final. In the bronze medal match, he played a close, deciding set but ultimately fell short, finishing 4th. Despite this, Kevin’s performance remains impressive, and he continues to show great promise for the future.

It’s truly inspiring to see the progress each player makes with every competition, and we’re confident this trend will continue in the future!
