Support for Disadvantaged Children – 1,000,000 HUF Donation to the Dr. Ámbédkar School – August 2023
2023. August 28.
The Dr. Ámbédkar School in Miskolc serves students from nearby Roma settlements, where the current graduation rate is below 1%. As a second-chance school, they emphasize from enrollment that their goal is not just to complete basic education but to help students achieve a high school diploma and, ideally, a vocational qualification. Their educational approach is designed to transform the social conditions of their students, encouraging an identity shift that empowers them to break out of their disadvantaged circumstances.
Earlier this year, we collaborated with the school by contributing to their IT training program. However, with the start of the new school year, they are once again facing significant challenges. The school operates mainly through grants and receives no direct support from the state or local government. Their unwavering commitment to working with disadvantaged youth is truly inspiring, and their efforts provide students with a real opportunity to escape poverty and achieve social integration. In the 2022/2023 school year, six students graduated, and five were accepted into higher education institutions, which we believe is a remarkable achievement.
To support the continuation of their important work, our foundation awarded the school a 1,000,000 HUF grant. According to the school’s leadership, this funding has been instrumental in addressing several critical needs as they prepare for the new academic year.
We hope that more people will recognize and support the valuable work being done at the Dr. Ámbédkar School, as rising utility and operational costs continue to present serious challenges.
