Community Development Grant 2024 – Music Therapy
2024. November 28.
The Rózsakert Children’s Home in Tolna County has been exploring the therapeutic power of music for several years. Initially, their sessions focused on using the human voice as a natural instrument due to the lack of access to other musical tools. These sessions aim to ease anxiety and develop social skills among the girls living at the home. Recently, the children expressed a desire to enhance their singing by incorporating various instruments. In response, the staff submitted a grant proposal to acquire the instruments they needed.
Having participated in several programs centered around drumming, the children were particularly excited to receive a variety of drums as part of the grant. They also acquired creative sound tubes, a tuning fork, and a wireless microphone set to enhance the choir’s activities. A long-anticipated addition, a bell set, was also included in the grant, enabling
more vibrant and colorful performances. Additionally, the children now have access to singing bowls for individual sound therapy, providing a new method to help relieve tension.
At the end of November, our Foundation visited the children’s home in Hőgyész to see their new, colorful equipment and meet some of the children participating in the sessions. During our visit, the children, brimming with excitement, were busy preparing for this year’s Christmas performance and even shared a glimpse of it with us.
The staff, who actively join in the music sessions, shared how making music, dancing, and singing together creates a sense of security and builds trust between the children and their caregivers. Witnessing the children’s enthusiasm and the staff’s dedication firsthand, we were delighted to see how impactful and valuable music therapy has become for everyone.
