Community Development Grant 2024 – Eat, Drink, Move!

The Szivárvány Special Children’s Home, located in Békés County, has launched an inspiring program designed to introduce its young residents to the principles of healthy living. Situated in Pusztaottlaka, the home accommodates 20 children with special or dual needs, organized into three groups. The aim of this initiative is to dedicate each week, over

the course of four months, to a specific theme that broadens the children’s understanding of healthy living and fosters a positive relationship with wellness.

As part of this program, the children participated in themed weeks focused on topics like Fruit Week, Vegetable Week, and the connection between hygiene and disease prevention. The program also emphasized the importance of sports and addressed the risks of harmful addictions. To keep the activities engaging, the dedicated staff brought in experts to offer additional insights. This hands-on approach allowed the children to try drying fruits, making pickles, canning homemade tomato juice, enjoying fresh smoothies, and, of course, participating in plenty of physical activities.

Our foundation was fortunate to visit one of these themed weeks, where the girls at the home eagerly shared their experiences, the new knowledge they had gained, and treated us to a delicious tasting of their creations.
