Experience Grant 2024 – “Summer, Adventure, and More”
2024. August 28.
In September, we wrapped up our “vacation series” for the year. The phrase “summer, adventure, and more” is a perfect fit for the summer holiday program organized by the Child Protection Center of Hajdú-Bihar County. The goal of the program was to organize a summer experience for each of the institution’s centers, and we are proud to say that this objective was successfully achieved.
The Komádi Center focused their program on the northern part of the country, spending five days exploring the areas surrounding Salgótarján and Eresztvény. The children had the opportunity to learn about the local wildlife and visit nearby castles and the local Mining Museum, where they explored fascinating exhibits. The program also included time for water activities and an exciting night hike.
The Berettyóújfalui Center set out to explore the region around Lake Tisza, spending five days in Sarud. Their accommodation provided all the amenities and activities needed for
relaxation, allowing the children to fully enjoy their free time. On the first day, the group went on a bike tour to visit the Sarudi Adventure Park, followed by a trip to Poroszló, where they discovered the wonders of the Tisza Lake Ecocenter. Throughout their stay, the children had multiple opportunities to explore the area by boat, and they also visited the local small zoo. Naturally, pool time was also part of the program, blending enjoyment with learning.
The Hajdúböszörményi Center focused their camp on environmental and nature protection, choosing Mátrafüred as their destination. During the camp, held at the end of August, the children participated in deciding which local attractions to visit. They spent their days immersed in nature, enjoying forest hikes and barefoot moments in the fresh streams. Without the distractions of the internet or TV, the children spent quality time talking, playing, and crafting, which had a positive and noticeable impact on the group. They also took a short train ride to explore the town of Gyöngyös and visited the Harkály House, an eco-tourism center that highlights the natural beauty of the Mátra. At Orczy Castle, the children expanded their knowledge through engaging historical experiences.
The Hajdúszoboszlói Center organized their program in Sirok, near Eger. This camp had a unique focus: strengthening sibling relationships among the children living at the institution. In addition to the fun and educational experiences, the adults emphasized this goal throughout the week. The children enjoyed swimming at the Bükkszék beach, sightseeing in Eger aboard a small train, and exploring the caves and Sirok Castle along the Piros Nature Trail. They also visited the Eger Basilica and other local churches. The highlight of the camp was a trip to the Dinosaur Park, which was met with great enthusiasm. We had the pleasure of visiting the group ourselves and seeing their excitement firsthand.
In total, 40 children participated in this well-organized summer program, broadening their horizons and creating lasting memories. We are thrilled that we could play a part in making this summer opportunity a reality!
